Reimagining Heritage: Nkwo Design's Journey with Icons Re/Outfitted

At Nkwo Design, we've always believed in the power of transformation and sustainability, and our latest venture, 'Icons Re/Outfitted', is a testament to this philosophy. In an inspiring collaboration with The Visionary Lab, Vitra, and Levi’s, we embarked on a journey to give iconic chairs a renewed purpose and narrative.

Denim is more than fabric; it's a tapestry of stories and memories. We took this enduring material and, through innovative upcycling techniques, gave it a new form.

Melding traditional African craftsmanship with the timelessness of denim, we re-envisioned the Amoebe chair by Verner Panton. Our design reflects a seamless blend of culture, history, and forward-thinking sustainability.

This collaboration challenges the perception of waste, offering a compelling narrative: "Waste isn’t waste until you waste it."

Our work took center stage at Dutch Design Week, the heart of innovation in design. It was there, among the most avant-garde concepts of our time, that 'Icons Re/Outfitted' stood out as a beacon of sustainable design. We showcased how craftsmanship can coexist with eco-consciousness, inviting onlookers to ponder the lifecycle of textiles.
